Safety

At the Ottawa Deepwell, keeping our community and workers safe is the most important thing we do. Safety is the top priority throughout our operations, from entering the facility to the base of the injection well.

“There has never been an instance of surface or drinking water contamination due to operation of a Class I disposal well which was sited, constructed and operated according to current US EPA standards.”

How We Protect the Community

  • Protects Groundwater – This facility has been designed and will be operated with the utmost thought and care for the complete protection of any aquifer or other viable water source. In fact, it is the basis for U.S. EPA permitting and all decision making. Steel and concrete casings line the well from top to bottom, and special seals and monitoring technology will ensure that the liquids are safely and precisely injected, and permanently sealed. These liquids will be secured at a depth of more than 4,950 feet – or almost a mile – below any potentially viable aquifer or drinking source.

  • Protects the Air – As part of our compliance commitments, we employ multiple measures to prevent the potential for offsite odor. This includes, managing and treating liquids within a closed facility, ensuring that storage and processing tanks have sealed lids. In addition, the injection process occurs within a closed system.

  • Inspected Regularly – The Ottawa Deepwell is regulated and inspected by the U.S. EPA. In addition, our team will work with state and local officials, keeping them updated on any key developments.

  • Overseen Continuously – Our team uses modern technologies to continually monitor facility systems and operations, right from their smart phones. This ensures that our personnel have complete visibility in facility operations, 24/7.

  • Proven Technology – There are more than 600 Class 1 injection wells permitted in the U.S. today. Our facility is highly engineered, from multiple concrete and steel barrier casings to continuous, technology-enabled monitoring and from instantaneous safety controls to robust compliance requirements.
